MOSCOW (Sputnik)  The ruling Serbian Progressive Party, headed by Prime Minister Alexander Vucic, has managed to remain in power after the parliamentary elections in April by allying itself with the Socialist Party of Serbia, with whom it will now build a coalition government.

"I hope that, whatever the makeup of the new Serbian government, there will be a worthy place in it for people who will pay proper attention to the development of our intergovernmental relations," Putin said.

He congratulated Vucic on his election victory and urged him to continue the existing bilateral projects between the countries.

"We will together carry on strengthening our bilateral ties, we will carry on building our relations in the political domain, the economy and on the international agenda. We are very happy about your victory," Putin added.

The previous parliament was dissolved by President Tomislav Nikolic on March, 4, at the request of Prime Minister Alexander Vucic, who said the government needed a clear mandate to complete the reforms it had started to make progress in Serbia's EU membership talks.
