MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Minsk believes that the release of Ukrainian military officer Nadezhda Savchenko by the Russian authorities will give an impetus to the negotiations about the Ukrainian conflict, Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesman Dmitry Mironchik said Thursday.

"Belarus welcomes the fact that the Russian Federation and Ukraine resolved one of the pending issues on the agenda, which has been an obstacle to a fruitful discussion of the Minsk agreements implementation and further peaceful solution in the east of Ukraine for a long time," Mironchik told journalists at a briefing.

He pledged Belarus' full support and commitment to the Minsk process.

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to pardon Savchenko who was convicted in Russia of being an accomplice to the murder of two journalists in Donbas.

Savchenko was deported to Kiev following the pardoning. On the same day, a plane carrying Yevgeny Yerofeyev and Alexander Alexandrov, Russian citizens convicted and sentenced in Ukraine for terrorism-related activities, landed at Moscow’s Vnukovo Internatinal Airport after Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a corresponding decree to pardon them.
