MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Moscow has a real understanding of the situation in the war-torn Syria and is aware of Syrian Kurds’ importance in the reconciliation process, Salih Muslim, co-chairman of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), told Sputnik.
"The Russian side is aware of the importance of the role played by the Kurds [in the settlement process], it has a real vision of the situation in the region," Muslim said in an interview.
While the Kurds are the largest ethnic minority in Syria, none of their representatives have been invited to the intra-Syrian negotiations, the latest round of which took place in Geneva on April 13-27.
Russia has been calling on the United Nations to invite Syrian Kurds to the proximity talks on settlement of the five-year civil war in Syria.
