WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – A man from the US state of Virginia could be sentenced to almost 50 years in prison for supporting the Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh) terror group and making false statements to the FBI, the US Department of Justice announced in a statement on Friday.
"Mahmoud Amin Mohamed Elhassan, 26, of Woodbridge, Virginia, was indicted by a grand jury…on charges of conspiracy to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levan (ISIL); aiding and abetting the provision of material support to ISIL; and making false statements to the FBI," the statement said.
The Islamic State, also known by its Arabic acronym Daesh, is a designated terrorist group that is outlawed in the United States, Russia and numerous other countries.
