ANKARA (Sputnik) – A total of 315 out of 550 lawmakers voted in favor of the move in an open session broadcast by Turkey’s NTV network.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan tasked Yildirim to form the country’s new government last Sunday.
Yildirim, the new leader of the Justice and Development Party, submitted the newly formed government’s program to lawmakers after Erdogan approved his cabinet on Tuesday. Among its priorities is transitioning toward a presidential system amid Erdogan's move to hold a referendum on amending the 1923 parliamentary constitution and consolidate power.
