VILNIUS (Sputnik) — According to the ministry, on May 27, a Russian Il-38 bomber was escorted as it flew over the Baltic Sea. On May 29, NATO forces escorted two Russian An-26 aircraft and two Su-27 jets, the statement said.
"From May 23 to 29 NATO fighter aircraft conducting air policing tasks in the Baltic States were scrambled twice to intercept military aircraft of the Russian Federation in international airspace above the Baltic Sea," the statement said.
The Russian Defense Ministry has repeatedly declared that all flights of the Russian aircraft are performed in accordance with international rules regulating flights over neutral waters and do not violate national borders of any state.
