SULAYMANIYAH (Iraq) (Sputnik) — Daesh suicide bomber blew up a check point of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces near the town of Suleiman Bek in the Iraqi Kurdistan, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) reported Tuesday.
"The suicide bomber detonated an explosive device near the check point. There are reports of killed and injured people," the union's media center said.
The Peshmerga is a military force of Iraqi Kurdistan that has been fighting Daesh since August 2014. The Peshmerga has liberated approximately 95 percent of the Kurdish territories within Iraq that were once held Daesh, according to the Iraqi Kurdistan authorities.
Daesh, a terrorist group outlawed in Russia, the United States and many other countries, seized vast territories in Syria and Iraq. A US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes against the group in both countries since 2014.
