Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan revived his criticism of the UN Security Council on Wednesday and called for fixed-term elections of its permanent and non-permanent members.

ANKARA (Sputnik) – In a televised speech on Turkish television, Erdogan lamented that there are no Muslim or African countries among permanent UNSC members.

"The world is more than five permanent UN Security Council members who decide the fate of mankind. No African, no Muslim countries are among them. This disparity between the continents runs counter to the principles of justice."

Addressing students at Makerere University in Uganda, Erdogan argued that both five permanent and 10 non-permanent UN Security Council members should be elected to fixed terms.

He leveled similar criticism toward the lack of Islamic representation at the UN body at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Istanbul in April, and the world Humanitarian Summit there last month.
