BAKU (Sputnik) — The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry called Thursday a German resolution recognizing Armenian genocide by the Ottoman Empire biased and prejudiced.
Earlier in the day, the German parliament adopted the resolution recognizing the World War I-era mass killing of Armenians by Ottoman authorities as genocide.
"We regard this resolution biased and prejudiced. It is unacceptable to falsify history for political aims," Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Hikmet Hajiyev said.
The German resolution drafted by the ruling Conservative-Socialist coalition together with the Green party was adopted by overwhelming majority of German legislators, with just one lawmaker opposing the bill. The resolution recognizes Ottoman policy of ethnic violence which led to the death of some 1.2 million Armenians in 1915-1916 as genocide. Turkey reacted by recalling its ambassador to Germany for consultations.
