WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Baghdad will be pursuing Russia’s support in purchasing arms needed to fight Faily said.

“We have sought support from others, including Russia, and mainly in the provisions and purchase of arms and we’ll continue doing that as well,” Faily said on Thursday.

The ambassador stressed that Russia is an important international player in Syria and Iraq.

“We would be happy to cooperate with them [Russians], we do purchase arms. We continue to have some level of, lower level [of] intelligence discussions and so on.  But our key international partner is United States, coalition partners and we are focusing on that,” Faily added.

Iraq, along with neighboring Syria, has been suffering from the advance of the Islamic State terrorist group, which is outlawed in Russia and the United States and many other countries.
