Bernie Sanders said Hillary Clinton couldn't run US' foreign policy properly as president considering her support for invasion of Iraq and regime change in Libya.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s credentials to run foreign policy as president of the United States have been blighted by her disastrous support of the 2003 invasion of Iraq and of regime change in Libya, Democratic presidential candidate and US Senator Bernie Sanders announced in a tweet.

"When it comes to foreign policy we cannot forget that Secretary Clinton voted for the war in Iraq, the worst foreign policy blunder in modern American history," Sanders tweeted on Thursday.

Sanders was responding to a keynote speech Clinton gave earlier the same day in which she presented her foreign policy experience as President Barack Obama’s secretary of state for four years from 2009 to 2013.

Sanders also criticized Clinton for having been "a proponent of regime change, as in Libya, without thinking through the consequences.

In 2011, the United States and its allies supported Islamic extremists that killed leader Muammar Gaddafi and toppled his government. Libya has since been beset by instability and infested with Islamic terrorist groups such as the Islamic State, also known as Daesh in Arabic.

Clinton and Sanders are competing in the California primary election on June 7. Sanders in recent days has sharply narrowed Clinton’s lead in California, the most populous US state, to only two percent, well within any statistical margin of error.
