MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia’s federal health and epidemic monitoring service Rospotrebnadzor should be prepared for threats of bio-terrorism, the head of the service Anna Popova said Friday.
"The most, of course, serious challenge of today is a bio-terrorism and we must be ready for it. We always prepare for it," Popova said during a XVI All-Russian Congress of nutritionists and dietitians.
She added that the use of food products as a way of delivery of damaging agents to the human's organism has been discovered recently.
In 2015, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said that extremists were trying to acquire weapons of mass destruction, including biological. He also noted that the appearance of Ebola disease can be a result of usage of "high technologies in the field of biological terrorism".
