“What is going on in the country has just one purpose – to silence and frighten the people,” Turker Erturk told Sputnik Turkey.
He added that in the nearest future the country’s leadership will undertake some certain steps to turn the country into the presidential republic and so they need to prevent its population from seeing the truth, expressing their own opinion or listening to the opinions of others.
It is for this particular purpose that they blocked the Sputnik website, the retired admiral said.
“What was it writing about? About the governmental circles being involved in the smuggling of Syrian oil. This is an absolute truth, from the first until the last word,” he said.
And the mass media source which reveals the evidence of can’t does nothing but anger the leadership. So, what do the authorities do in such a situation, he wonders.
They block the access to the website to silence it.
As the authorities become more and more scared, they take more and more radical steps. But when taking these steps they become even more scared. It is a vicious circle.
Otherwise, as soon as he loses his influence and power, he will immediately face trial and will be convicted for all of his crimes.
So his task is to hold onto power at any cost. But it is impossible to do this within a democratic system but very simple within a total dictatorship.
Turker Erturk also commented on the criminal case opened concerning accusations of insulting the president.
“Recep Tayyip Erdogan constantly uses the following expressions with regards to the citizens of his home country: “scoundrel”, “betrayer of the Motherland”, “terrorist sympathizer”, “unscrupulous”, “abominable” and so on,” he said.
The people who receive such insults from the president must apply to court over the insult to their dignity.
“These words should be considered within the “freedom of speech” rules,” he replied.
“I hadn’t used any insulting word with regards to the president. I only said that it is necessary to launch a court investigation with regards to the president, who is providing support to the terrorists, committing constitutional crimes, violating public order and stability in the state, unleashing ethnic tensions and sectarianism. This is not an insult which assaults dignity,” he finally said.
