ANKARA (Sputnik) — The anti-terrorist operation against Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), outlawed in Turkey, is completed in the Turkish southern city of Nusaybin, the General Staff of the Turkish army said in a statement Friday.
During the operation carried out since March 14, 502 militants were killed. The operation against PKK in Sirnak, in the province of the same name, continues.
Tensions between Ankara and the Kurds escalated in July 2015 when a ceasefire between Turkey and the PKK collapsed, prompting a government military operation. Several round-the-clock curfews were imposed in Kurdish-populated towns, trapping civilians.
