KIEV (Sputnik) — The United States and Ukraine have signed an agreement on granting Kiev a third tranche of a guaranteed loan of $1 billion, the Ukrainian Finance Ministry’s press service said Friday.
“On June 3, there was a signing of an agreement on providing a credit guarantee in the amount of $1 billion between the governments of Ukraine and the United States…Thanks to this agreement, Ukraine will receive additional possibilities to support and protect the more vulnerable [strata] of Ukrainians from the influence of economic factors,” the press service said.
On March 11, the IMF approved a four-year program of financial aid to Ukraine, which stipulates a $17.5 billion loan over the next four years. The Ukrainian government has to implement new economic policies for the IMF to disburse the funds.
