WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The videos of 101 cases, which were recorded by police dashboard cameras, business surveillance cameras or bystanders’ cellphones, were released on Friday, the newspaper said.
Videos from 2015 show a police officer beating a man, Terrence Clarke, for complaining about his meal at a restaurant, where Clarke was eating with his family. The police officer, dressed in plain clothes, later said Clarke had attacked him.
Chicago’s chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police said the release of the material was "irresponsible" as police union leaders were not notified in advance, The New York Times said.
On November 27, white Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke was charged with first degree murder for shooting 17-year-old African American Laquan McDonald 16 times in October 2014. The US Department of Justice shortly thereafter launched an investigation into the Chicago Police’s use of force.
