MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The fire broke out on Saturday in the city of Calabasas, known for its wealthy and famous residents. The fire reportedly started when a pickup truck struck a power pole, causing the transformer to explode.
"Three thousand homes are threatened and approximately 5000 residents have been evacuated. The majority of the evacuations were mandatory as others voluntarily evacuated to safety," the department said in a Facebook statement.
The evacuated residents were urged to stay in nearby Agoura High School. The authorities evacuated the residents' pets, as well, which can stay at Agoura Animal Care Center, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said.
