MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Most of the British newspapers are likely to encourage public to stay in the European Union on the day of the referendum, June 23, Liam Halligan, an economics commentator for Telegraph Media Group, told Sputnik on Monday.
"I think most newspapers on the day, on June 23, will say: we really think that you should remain in the EU. Most of them will say that. But there has also been a pretty muscular and vibrant debate in the UK, and there is still time to go," Halligan said.
"There has been a lot of media coverage on Brexit in the UK that has been pro-remaining in the EU, but I think there has been a pretty vibrant fight back as well," Halligan added.
UK nationals are set to vote on June 23 in a referendum on the country's EU membership.
Prime Minister David Cameron advocates the necessity to remain in the European Union after he and the leaders of the 27 EU member states agreed in February to grant the United Kingdom a special status within the bloc.
