MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Professional journalism should secure its footing for the future by operating with reliable sources and building up a good reputation amid challenges posed by the changing nature of information, Rossiya Segodnya International Media Group Director General Dmitry Kiselev said Monday.

"Currently, professional journalism is facing the challenge of whether it stays around at all. But this is also an opportunity. It shows that relying on solid sources, one's own brand and its accumulated credibility is valued even higher in the era of information noise and a global informational village, which [Maria] Zakharova talked about" Kiselev said during the New Era of Journalism: Farewell to Mainstream forum, hosted by the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency in Moscow.

Earlier on Monday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, who is also attending the event, said that professional journalism can reach new levels of reporting quality by ensuring objectivity in the era of a "global information village."
