MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Bogdanov already met with Samir Aita from the Syrian Democratic Forum opposition party and Randa Kassis from the Movement of the Pluralistic Society in the French capital of Paris on Friday. They discussed the ongoing situation in Syria and around it with a focus on implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions 2254 and 2268, which make provisions for political settlement of the Syrian crisis and resolute struggle against terrorism.
"During the meeting, the current situation in Syria and around was discussed, with emphasis on the need to intensify the Geneva negotiating process between the Syrian Arab Republic government and a wide spectrum of the Syrian opposition, which should be based on the Geneva communique of 2012, the International Syrian Support Group (ISSG) and relevant UN Security Council resolutions," the ministry said in a statement.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups. The Syrian government and opposition's representatives have met several times during the course of the war for peace talks.
