MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The president will congratulate journalists on the 75th anniversary of the Soviet Information Bureau (Sovinformburo) which eventually evolved into RIA Novosti and Rossiya Segodnya.
"On June 7, Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit the headquarters of the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency and will congratulate the journalists and the participants of the New Era of Journalism: Farewell to Mainstream international media forum on the 75-year anniversary [of the Soviet Information Bureau]," the Kremlin's press service said in a statement.
The New Era of Journalism: Farewell to Mainstream international media forum, timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of establishment of the Soviet Information Bureau, kicked off in Moscow earlier on Monday. The event deals with the changing nature of contemporary journalism and is attended by media experts from over 30 countries.
Sovinformburo was founded on June 24, 1941. The organization compiled mainly war reports for Soviet radio stations, newspapers and magazines at the time.
