MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia and the US exchange information twice a day on cooperation in Syria.
"We will decide on how our aerospace forces will operate based on our assessment of the situation. We share this assessment with the Americans daily during video conferences between the Hmeymim base and the US command in Amman, Jordan. Therefore, there will be no surprises for the Americans here," Lavrov told reporters.
Russia has warned the United States in advance that it would support the Syrian government’s military actions against extremists in Aleppo, he said.
"We have warned the US side in advance about what is taking place in Aleppo and around it now, and they know that we will continue supporting the Syrian army from the air to not allow the terrorists to take over the territory."
The minister added that Moscow was counting on Washington’s honest cooperation. "We expect that our partners will cooperate with us honestly and will not try to use our regular contacts to implement other plans… behind our back."
The United States has for months failed to fulfill its obligations on separating the moderate Syrian opposition from terrorist groups, Lavrov said.
"For many months, the United States has not fulfilled the obligations it undertook in regard to separating the opposition groups loyal to them from al-Nusra Front and other terrorists," Lavrov told reporters.
