BANGKOK (Sputnik) – According to the Channel 3 broadcaster, the explosions occurred at a library and an office building, also damaging nearby houses. No casualties have been reported.
Islamist militants active in the region are responsible for the blasts, a police spokesperson said, as cited by the channel.
The blasts come after on Sunday, a group of unidentified persons opened fire in the street of Patani’s Ban Mae Kung village. Five people were reportedly injured in the attack, including a police officer. Later that day, another attack occurred at a local transformer station.
Pattani has been mired in sporadic violence since 2004, as Islamist groups operating in southern Thailand have been fighting the country's government.
