The publication of lists of journalists accredited in the self-proclaimed eastern Ukrainian people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk is inexpedient because journalists' activities should not be interfered with, Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) head Vasyl Hrytsak said Monday.

Ukraine's President Says Exposing Foreign Reporters Data ‘Big Mistake’
KIEV (Sputnik) — The Ukrainian Mirotvorets website published in May private details of 4,000 journalists working for CNN, Reuters, AFP, BBC, and Al Jazeera, among other outlets, in the breakaway Ukrainian provinces. Some of them received threats, according to the EU delegation in Ukraine.

"Firstly, I believe that it is inexpedient to publish such lists. Those journalists who are in the counterterrorist operation zone, objectively cover what is happening there, support and show that we are not fighting with the separatists and that it is not an internal Ukrainian conflict," Hrytsak told journalists. "We have no right to interfere with activities of journalists."

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said the online leak is a mistake. The Ukrainian prosecutor’s office said last month it had launched a criminal inquiry into the publications. The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Dunja Mijatovic, said reporters should not be harassed for doing their job and urged Kiev on Thursday to speed up the probe.
