Hot Offer: McDonald’s Japan to Give Away 18K Gold Nugget and Pack of Fries

McDonald's Japan has made nuggets and fries worth their weight in gold. Literally. The corporation has launched two separate contests, which give the opportunity to a couple of lucky winners to get a special box of gold fries and a 5-piece chicken nuggets box, one which is made out of 18-karat gold.

​During the first competition that ends on Tuesday, customers have to download a special app, take a creative shot of something that can resemble fries, apply a filter that adds a McDonald's Fries carton on top and share the image on Twitter with the hashtag #ポテ撮り that means "potetori" — "potato picture-taking."

​The winner of a later contest will be awarded with a 5-piece chicken McNugget box in which one piece is made out of solid 18-karat gold. The company is encouraging people to tweet photos of a nugget thief Kaito Nuggets, also known as Phantom Thief Nuggets, who apparently likes to steal chicken bites. The official Twitter account of McDonald's Japan will be leaking clues about the thief's identity and location while customers have to guess who and where he or she is. The nugget thief chase is set to run from June 8 to June 28; during this time one person a day will also win 39 days of free chicken nuggets, though, unfortunately, edible ones; none of those will be made of gold.
