WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Since the Manbij offensive began on May 31, the Syrian Arab Coalition has freed 344 square kilometers from Daesh control. The statement noted that the US coalition has conducted more than 105 airstrikes in support of the operation.
"The Syrian Arab Coalition supported by [US] Coalition air power have destroyed 108 Daesh fighting positions, 31 Daesh vehicles, 17 Daesh heavy-weapons, two Daesh weapon caches, and one Daesh vehicle borne improvised explosive device," CJTF-OIR stated.
The Syrian Arab Coalition is an umbrella group of Sunni Arab ground forces tasked by the United States with fighting the Daesh in Syria. It is one component of the allied Syrian Democratic Forces, which includes Kurdish, Assyrian and Turkmen fighters.
US coalition advisors are assisting Syrian Arab Coalition leadership with command and control from behind the forward line, CJTF-OIR explained.
The Syrian Arab Coalition will be responsible for securing the city of Manbij once it is freed.
