BAKU (Sputnik) – The Armenian forces have violated the truce in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh 15 times during the last 24 hours, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said Wednesday.
"According to the defense ministry, the Armenian armed units using heavy machine guns violated the ceasefire 15 times along different parts of the contact line during last 24 hours," the ministry said.
The outbreak of violence erupted in the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh republic on April 2, and resulted in multiple casualties. On April 5, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a Russia-brokered ceasefire in Moscow.
Nagorno-Karabakh is an Azerbaijan’s split region that proclaimed its independence in 1991. After the military conflict ended in 1994, Azerbaijan lost the control over the region mostly populated by the Armenians.
