ANKARA (Sputnik) — On June 1, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow expected apologies from Turkey and compensations for the downed Su-24 aircraft. He stressed that no steps had been made in that direction yet.
"Russia has been our neighbor for a thousand years. We are willing to develop relations with it, which does not necessarily mean agreeing on many issues. As for the current problems with Russia, Turkey is, of course, right, but we are ready to solve them," Simsek said, as quoted by the NTV channel.
He added that Turkish policy regarding Russia was "rational and pragmatic."
In May, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow was willing to resume relations with Ankara. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu proposed to establish a joint working group with Russia in a bid to normalize the stalled Ankara-Moscow relations.
