MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, the registration page for the referendum on the UK government's website stopped allowing voters to submit their details around one and a half hours before the deadline.
"The Government must come forward with emergency legislation or a Statutory Instrument to change the legislation to allow the registration to continue for 24 hours," Farron said in his article published in The Huffington Post. "These people were not ‘late’ to register; they were within the time limit at their democratic right is now at risk of being snatched from them. No true democrat can defend this."
Member of the Scottish National Party, Tommy Sheppard, also called for the extension of the deadline in a statement released earlier on Wednesday.
Voters in the United Kingdom will take part in a referendum on June 23 to decide whether the country should remain part of the European Union.
