French Anti-Sanctions Vote Shows Public Opposition to EU Policy - Senator
MOSCOW (Sputnik), Svetlana Alexandrova — Italian Lega Nord party does not exclude a possibility of putting forward a resolution calling for lifting of anti-Russia sanctions to the Italian Parliament, Senator Sergio Divina, a member of the Italian Lega Nord party, told Sputnik Thursday.

On Wednesday, the French Senate passed by overwhelming majority a resolution calling on the government to ease sanctions against Russia. Although the resolution is not legally binding, the document will be sent to the French government for consideration.

"We have not yet prepared or submitted documents, but I believe it is the right thing to do in order to understand the position of the Italian Parliament," Sergio Divina said.

The senator added that his party was against anti-Moscow sanctions and supports an idea of presenting such resolutions to the European parliaments.

Ukraine Hopes EU Will Keep Anti-Russia Sanctions Despite French Resolution
In May, the council of the Italian Veneto region voted in support of a resolution that urges the national government to condemn the European Union’s Crimea policy and work toward lifting the sanctions against Russia. Another Italian regional council of Liguria set a final date for a vote on a similar resolution for June 29.

In 2014, relations between Russia and the European Union, including Italy, deteriorated amid the crisis in Ukraine. Brussels, Washington and their allies have introduced several rounds of anti-Russia sanctions over Crimea's secession from Ukraine and reunification with Russia, accusing Moscow of meddling in the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Russia has repeatedly refuted the allegations, warning that the Western sanctions are counterproductive and undermine global stability.
