"The shelling of settlements is becoming frequent and lasts several hours. Militants are not sparing ammunition and carry out attacks not only against government forces, but also residential areas," he added.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups, such as Nusra Front and Daesh. Both groups are outlawed in many countries, including Russia.
