MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Three tons of mostly foodstuff and flour were brought to inhabitants of the northern Syrian village of Deir al-Salib in the Hama province as well as Rodvania in the Aleppo governorate.
Planes belonging to Russia’s Abakan Air airline airdropped 36 tons of UN humanitarian cargo – food items and grain – to the Daesh-besieged city of Deir ez-Zor, which has been on the verge of starvation for months.
Last week, the UN World Food Program announced it had developed a plan to bring humanitarian aid to areas in Syria that are too dangerous to access by truck convoys.
Syria has been mired in a civil war since 2011, with the Syrian army fighting numerous opposition factions and Islamic extremist groups. The conflict has led to a humanitarian disaster.
