"Naval ships, aircraft and personnel from India, Japan and the United States are scheduled to participate in the annual exercise Malabar 2016, June 9-17," the release stated.
The US Navy noted that while in Sasebo, Japan, training will include carrier strike group operations, patrol and reconnaissance operations, ordnance disposal as well as other expert and professional exchange.
The portions of the exercise conducted at sea "are designed to advance participating nations’ military-to-military coordination and capacity to plan and execute tactical operations in a multinational environment," the release added.
The ultimate goal of the event is to advance maritime relationships between the countries, and work on mutual security issues, according to the US Navy.
