MOSCOW (Sputnik) – In November 2015, Ukraine halted purchases of Russian gas, saying the price offered by its European partners was much lower than that offered by Moscow.
"The Kremlin cannot get involved in the issue of commercial negotiations, indubitably, the Gazprom company leads those [talks] with its Ukrainian counterparts. Therefore, in this case, the negotiations should be completely depoliticized and commercial in nature," Peskov told reporters.
Earlier this week, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak ruled out alterations to the existing contract between Gazprom and Naftogaz after the latter offered to sign additions to the gas supplies contract between the companies covering deliveries over the next three quarters.
