NEW YORK (Sputnik) — At least two people have come in contact with a suspicious substance inside a federal building in Manhattan, a New York City Fire Department (FDNY) spokesperson told Sputnik on Friday.
"At 10:34 [am], we received reports of possible hazardous at 26 Federal Plaza. Two, possibly three people may have been exposed," the FDNY said.
The authorities are still on the scene investigating the incident. Authorities have yet to make a determination on whether or not the substance is hazardous.
The status of the affected people exposed to the substance is unknown, the FDNY noted.
The US federal building located at 26 Federal Plaza houses numerous government agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) New York Field Office.
