The movement of US aircraft carrier is a "show of power", the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry's European Cooperation Department said Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The movement of US aircraft carrier Harry Truman in the Mediterranean Sea is a "show of power" ahead of the NATO summit in Warsaw, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry's European Cooperation Department said Friday.

"There is nothing special about the movement of US vessels in this case. We know that aircraft carriers are moving in the Mediterranean Sea and elsewhere, they have a right to do so, the right of innocent passage," Andrei Kelin told RIA Novosti.

"As for the situation on the whole, there is a certain increase in tension, all this is done ahead of the NATO summit in Warsaw, it is a show of power," he added.

Moscow is considering the possibility of a new meeting of the NATO-Russia Council, but there is no decision yet, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry's European Cooperation Department said Friday.

"We know there are requests by the alliance to hold another meeting ahead of the Warsaw summit, we are considering this, there is no decision yet. We will see how things move forward. But overall, we can absolutely not give up on the most important channel of cooperation and dialogue," Andrei Kelin told RIA Novosti.
