France Calls for Sanctions on England, Russia After Fan Clashes
16:36 GMT 12.06.2016 (Updated: 17:46 GMT 12.06.2016) French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve called for sanctions against English and Russian football authorities for their fans' scuffle, at a Sunday press briefing.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve demanded sanctions against football authorities in England and Russia for failing to prevent skirmishes among their fans, at a Sunday press briefing.
Cazeneuve said that the English Football Association (FA) and the Russian Football Union (RFU) should be held accountable for scuffles that broke out inside Marseille’s Velodrome stadium on Saturday evening.
English and Russian supporters clashed in the fan zone shortly after the game ended in a 1:1 draw. The European football governing body UEFA warned FA and RFU on Sunday that both teams would be disqualified if the violence occurred again.
