Earlier in June, Ukraine’s national oil and gas company Naftogaz offered Russian energy giant Gazprom to sign additions to the gas supplies contract, adding that Gazprom may become a supplier for Ukraine once its prices are lower than those offered by European suppliers.
"Everything will depend on what the Ukrainian colleagues will propose, and in this context, as I know, Naftogaz and Gazprom are in contact," Novak told reporters, answering a question about the possibility of talks on renewal of gas deliveries.
In October 2015, Naftogaz said that the country was completing the purchase of gas from Gazprom, and the decision to continue to import gas from this supplier would depend on the price. The following month, Ukraine halted purchases of Russian gas, saying the pricing offered by its European partners was much lower than that offered by Moscow.
