WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs, Anne Patterson, hosted trilateral talks with her counterparts from Japan and Korea in Washington, DC on Monday to coordinate policies related to the Middle East and North Africa, the US State Department said in a press release.
"The United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea held a trilateral dialogue on the Middle East and North Africa on June 13 in Washington, DC," the release stated.
The three governments talked about their views on the Middle East and North Africa, worked on coordinating policy positions, and explored ways to expand cooperation, the release added.
Also on Monday, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe expressed his country’s commitment to fight terrorism with the United States after the shooting at a nightclub in Orlando, Florida that left 49 people dead and 53 others injured.
