WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A Chinese national working for an American company is facing charges for allegedly stealing source code in order to benefit the Chinese government's health commission, the US Justice Department said in a press release on Tuesday.
"Xu Jiaqiang, 30, was charged in a six-count superseding indictment with economic espionage and theft of trade secrets, in connection with Xu’s theft of proprietary source code… with the intent to benefit the National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People’s Republic of China," the release stated.
The US Attorney working on the case, according to the release, noted that Xu stole the proprietary software after voluntarily resigning from his job at the US company.
Xu faces the possibility of a maximum sentence of 90 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
