The Daesh Genocide Dilemma: Can Obama Prosecute a Terrorist Group?
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The fight against Daesh has seen major progress in the past two months, US President Barack Obama said on Tuesday upon concluding a meeting with the National Security Council.

"Since I last updated the American people on our campaign two months ago, we have seen that this continues to be a difficult fight, but we are making significant progress," Obama stated.

The president noted that the US-led coalition against Daesh has carried out more than 13,000 airstrikes and eliminated more than 120 top terrorists’ leaders and commanders.

"ISIL [Daesh] is under more pressure than ever before," Obama concluded.

The US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes against Daesh in Syria and Iraq since summer 2014.

On Friday, the US Department of State said, however, that only 12 out of some 60 coalition members have played a role in the airstrikes campaign targeting the terrorist group.

Daesh is outlawed in many countries around the world, including the United States and Russia.
