WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The issue of US gun safety laws has drawn particular attention following the Sunday massacre in Orlando, when a shooter identified as US national Omar Mateen opened fire in a crowded gay nightclub in Orlando killing 49 people and injuring at least 53 others.
"We have to face the fact that meaningful gun control has to be a part of homeland security," Johnson said in an interview with CBS News. "We need to do something to minimize the opportunity for terrorists to get a gun in this country."
The Orlando massacre has become the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the United States.
On Monday, US President Barack Obama said the terrorist behind the Orlando attack obtained his weapons legally.
