"There were 24 reported hate violence homicides of LGBTQ people [in 2015], a 20 percent increase from the 20 reported anti-LGBTQ homicides in 2014," the report, released Tuesday, stated.
The majority of homicides were made up of transgender and gender-nonconforming people of color, the report found.
The report was released two days after 29-year-old US citizen Omar Mateen opened fire in a gay nightclub, killing 49 people and wounding 53 others before police killed him.
The Orlando massacre has become the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the United States.
NCAVP is a national coalition of local member programs and organizations working to prevent, response to, and end all forms of violence against the LGBT community, according to the group’s website.
