WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The DC Circuit Court of Appeals sustained the net neutrality rules, which US President Barack Obama has promoted as being necessary to force internet companies to treat all web traffic equally, Politico reported.
The regulation reclassifies broadband internet as a telecommunications service, a designation that gives the FCC authority to regulate it like a public utility and requires companies to provide internet services to everyone at uniform rates.
Broadband providers had fought the regulation, claiming the FCC did not have the authority to reclassify broadband internet as a telecommunications service.
