Poland Could Send Troops to Iraq, Kuwait to Fight Against Daesh
Poland plans to make a contribution to the international US-led coalition fighting against Daesh terrorist group by sending troops to Iraq and Kuwait, the head of the National Security Bureau, Pawel Soloch, said Wednesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Polish Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz said that Warsaw could send four F-16 fighter jets to the Middle East for reconnaissance operations in the region before the forthcoming July NATO summit in the Polish capital.
"Contingents could be sent to Kuwait and the Republic of Iraq, with supportive infrastructure in other countries in the region," Soloch said, as quoted by Polsat News TV channel.
He added that Warsaw could sent F-16 fighter jets and 150 soldiers to Kuwait for participation in reconnaissance activities and 60 more could be sent to Iraq to train local forces.
According to Soloch, Polish troops could be sent abroad only after the approval of country's President Andrzej Duda while the request for such an approval has already been sent to him.
A US-led coalition of over 60 nations has been conducting airstrikes against Daesh targets in Iraq and Syria since 2014.
