Daesh in Libya 'Most Dangerous,' to Plot Attacks in Europe - CIA Director
13:46 GMT 16.06.2016 (Updated: 20:42 GMT 19.10.2022) The branch of Daesh in Libya is likely the most dangerous and it will attempt to plot attacks in Europe, US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Brennan said during a hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Years of instability in Libya have created a political and security vacuum that was filled by Islamist militants. Daesh gained a foothold in the country by capturing cities along the coast.
"ISIL [Islamic State] is gradually cultivating its global network of branches into a more interconnected organization. The branch in Libya is probably the most developed and the most dangerous. We assess that it is trying to increase its influence in Africa and to plot attacks in the region and in Europe," Brennan said.
