ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — On June 11, the Russian national football team drew against England in Marseille's Velodrome stadium in the group stage of the UEFA’s Euro-2016 championship. After the match, clashes between Russian and English fans erupted at the stadium, resulting in at least 30 people sustaining injuries. Following the clashes, French police reported that some individuals involved had been arrested.
"No, those two things are not related," — Zhukov told RIA Novosti.
Russia's participation in the upcoming Olympic Games has been put into doubt by a doping scandal in Russian sports. Russian athletics has been accused of wide-scale doping and the Russian Athletic Federation's membership of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has been suspended as a result.
The Russian authorities promised to conduct a clean-up program to rectify the issue and the IAAF is due to decide on June 17 whether or not Russian athletes should be allowed to participate in the Olympic Games.
