ST PETERSBURG (Sputnik) – Iran seeks to broaden its partnership with Russian banks, while the Iranian Central Bank has begun cooperating with Gazprombank, an official from the Iranian Central Bank said Thursday.
"During the sanctions period some Russian banks gave good assistance to the banking sector of Iran. What has happened to them after the sanctions? Fewer of them are coming to Iran, and that's a pity. A positive thing is that we have started negotiations with Gazprombank. But we need more banks to get involved. We expect to have a more smooth banking relation with Russia," Hossein Yaghoubi Miab, director general of the international affairs department of Iran's Central Bank, said at a session at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
