The issue of establishing Russian military bases in Belarus is not under discussion at the moment, the Belarusian ambassador to Russia told Sputnik on Thursday.

ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) – In September, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered that an agreement be signed providing for the establishment of a Russian air base in Belarus.

"It is not being discussed at the moment," Igor Petrishenko said, on the sidelines of the the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), when asked if the issue had been resolved.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has dismissed rumors about potential bases, purportedly spread by Belarusian opposition elements. He stressed that Minsk and Moscow had not discussed the issue.
