MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) – The desecration of Gallegos’s grave at a Caracas cemetery was reported on Wednesday by the former president’s granddaughter, Theotiste Gallegos, on Facebook.
"They stole my story and part of the history of each of the Venezuelan people," Theotiste said.
Caracas Mayor Jorge Rodriguez refuted the reports, saying that a prosecutor would be sent to the cemetery to verify that Gallegos’s remains were still there.
"Don’t tell me it [grave] wasn’t ransacked," Theotiste Gallegos said in a later Facebook message, posting images of the desecrated grave.
El Nacional said the grave of Venezuela’s former president Isaias Medina Angarita, located at the same cemetery, was also vandalized on Wednesday, according to Angarita’s son.
